Old railway, Vigo Wood
Big changes here in the latter 20th century. The A1 Birtley bypass (background) became a full motorway,a big junction replacing the roundabout at Vigo. Meanwhile the mineral railway passing under the motorway is now a cycle path.

Old mineral railway, Vigo
Now part of the Coast to Coast cycle route, this used to be a railway serving collieries. The area became built up during the second half of the twentieth century.
