River Wear at Elvet Waterside, 1968
My view now from the same spot would be obscured by New Elvet Bridge (see Image), which crosses the Wear about 15 metres or so from the camera. The trees and nearest buildings on the right have been replaced by houses along Elvet Waterside. But the prominent building jutting out to the river's edge in the centre (I think it is the Durham Light Infantry building) remains in place. Upstream on the left are Baths Bridge and Bede College. Taking place on the river and watched by crowds from the bank and on the bridge, is the raft race, a University rag week event.

Baths Bridge, 1968
Gloomily into the light, but an opportunity to show the downstream side of Image According to http://www.bridgesonthetyne.co.uk/baths.html , this concrete span is at least the third structure here. The public baths are on the right. The crowd is watching the raft race, a University rag week event.
