Old milestone
After 9 years the milestone is settled in at Beechy Cottage at the eastern end of the old main road that went through Ringford. The missing top plate would have had London 356 miles and 58 from Port Patrick. Gatehouse of Fleet 7 on the left and Castle Douglas 8 to the right (east). These milestones were made by mason, R Tait of Castle Douglas and the iron work by founder J Affleck of Dumfries who was based in Maxwelltown on the west side of the River Nith. J Affleck and Sarah are in Pigot and Slater trade directory in 1852 but not in 1898.
