Old and New Kirks at Buittle
Buittle Kirk dates back to the 13th century during the time of the Balliol Lordship of Galloway. Dedicated to St Colman, the kirk was extended during the 14th century and was appropriated by Sweetheart Abbey in 1381. It remained in use until the present parish church was built in 1819.
