Former tollhouse
Surveyed by the Milestone Society. On the B729 north west from Dumfries, the village name Throughgate shows it was an important route for drovers and other travellers. The building is known as Macphail Drovers' Toll Tower House. Historic Scotland information says it was built in 1800.
