The Gretna Inn
A plastic pub to complete the shopping experience. It is older than it looks. Contributor John M writes: Tasteless I agree but with some age. Previously known as the Crossways Inn. The Gretna Garden City Heritage Trail describes this as the Crossways Canteen and Girl's Club. A timber building primarily built as a canteen for construction workmen. It was used as a cinema until the permanent one was opened. It was later used as a club room for girls and for medical examination of female employees. It is also listed on Canmore but without any supporting text. At some stage it came within the portfolio of the State Management Scheme. Whether or not it dates from 1916 I couldn't say with certainty but it looks possible.
