A doorway by Thomas Telford
This doorway at the northwest end of the Whitecroft Hotel in Langholm was made as an apprentice-piece by Thomas Telford during his training as a stonemason. The famous civil engineer was born at Glendinning near Langholm in 1757.

An interesting corner of Langholm
There are three items of note in this area off the High Street in front of Langholm Library. On the left is the site of the Mercat Cross; centre right is a statue to Admiral Sir Pulteney Malcolm, G.C.B, G.C.M.G., born February 21st 1768 at Douglen near Langholm and died July 20th 1838; and on the right is a doorway Image] made by the famous civil engineer Thomas Telford when working as an apprentice mason at Langholm. Telford was born at Glendinning near Langholm in 1757.
