Thomas Telford Road in Langholm
This road was named in honour of Thomas Telford, the greatest road and bridge engineer, and, considering his time, arguably among the greatest of all time. He was born in nearby Glendinning, Dumfriesshire, the son of a shepherd. in August 1757. He died in London in August 1834. The "Colossus of roads" was interred at Westminster Abbey. Among his many honours was the naming of the new town of Telford In Shropshire, where he was county surveyor, in his honour.

A stone pillar in Langholm
I'm not exactly sure what this stone pillar would have been originally. It could have been part of a well or drinking fountain and perhaps a local resident may be able to provide confirmation. It stands on the west side of the Buccleuch Centre in Buccleuch Square.
