Robert Burns' House
This is not the only house where Burns lived, but this sandstone building on present-day Burns Street (formerly Church Vennel) is where he spent his final four years, after giving up his farm at nearby Ellisland; the house has been preserved as a Robert Burns museum. The poet's signature, now protected, can still be seen here where he scratched it onto a windowpane using a diamond stylus; some regalia associated with Freemasonry is also on show (Burns joined at a lodge in Tarbolton in 1781); and, among other memorabilia, one of Burns' writing desks is on display here. For a better view of the house, see another contributor's later picture: Image

O, my luve?s like a red, red rose
This cairn, set in a rose garden in Dumfries, records one of Robert Burns's most famous poems. The inscription reads: O, my luve’s like a red, red rose, That’s newly sprung in June O, my luve’s like the melodie, That’s sweetly play’d in tune. As fair art thou, my bonie lass, So deep in luve am I, And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry.
