The final resting place of the greatest of all Scots, the immortal Robert Burns
Robert Burns (1759-1796) was one of the world's greatest men, not just for his works as a songwriter and poet but for his whole philosophy of life. For him, life was simple, all men are born equal and they die equal. The part between birth and death should be the same. There should be no boundaries stopping man from his travels, no national flags or emblems to distinguish one from another. All men, no matter the colour, are God's creatures and no religion divide should exist only the peace and harmony of brothers. No matter what, where, when or who 'A man's a man for a' that' The mausoleum contains the great man, his wife and his children including his oldest son Robert who died at the age of 70.

The Martyrs' Monument
A monument in St Michael's churchyard (where Robert Burns' Mausoleum is also located). There are several monuments devoted to the memory of the Covenanters (either as a group, or to named individuals) in Dumfries and Galloway. The inscription here reads: "THE MARTYRS' MONUMENT Erected by the voluntary contributions of persons who revere the memory, and admire the principles, of the sufferers for conscience' sake, during the Persecution in Scotland. Aided by a collection made at a Sermon preached on the spot by the Rev. Wm. Symington of Stranraer".

Forty Winks or so
As we grow older and life's road becomes narrower, planning for the future and taking some time out, even just a short siesta, becomes so much more important. I just couldn't pass up this opportunity on Brooms Road in Dumfries when I walked towards this sign and spotted the shop to the right.
