Annan: National Cycle milepost at the station
One of a thousand similar mileposts erected to mark the millennium, on the various National Cycle Routes. This one is on Route 7, which runs from Sunderland to Inverness via Carlisle and Glasgow. The signposted distance to Glasgow, 183 miles, is by way of route 7 through Kirkcudbright and Ayr, and is about 100 miles longer than the most direct route available. See Image

Annan: detail of the millennium milepost
The western arm of Image has a distance of 183 miles to Glasgow, which I initially thought was a mistake since it is less than 100 miles by direct road. Of course, the distance is by way of National Cycle Route 7, which goes via Kirkudbright, Ayr and Kilwinning.
