Eastern approach to Eastriggs
Eastriggs village carries the strapline "The Commonwealth Village" to commemorate the large number of workers from various parts of the Commonwealth who worked here in the munitions factory during World War I (except that it was called the British Empire in those days). Many of the streets in the village carry the name of towns in the Commonwealth - Calcutta, Delhi, Vancouver, Melbourne, Sydney, Pretoria, Ladysmith, Dunedin. The main B721 road carries National Cycle Network route 7 which follows a circuitous course between Sunderland and Inverness. A caravan business flanks the road to the right.
