The shop with a barber’s pole on the left is located at 114 High Street in the town centre. The red and white stripes of a barber’s pole is the traditional sign for a barber’s shop. The origins of the pole go back to the barber surgeons of medieval times who performed bloodletting, minor surgical procedures and tooth extractions.
