Flammulina velutipes
A fungus that likes the cold, and is often found on dead stumps in late winter. The specific name 'velutipes' translates as 'velvet foot', and refers to the brown velvety base of the stalk. Velvet Foot and Velvet Shank are common names. The white deposit on some of the lower caps is a natural spore print, and an indication that this species has white spores.
