Electric train passing through closed Beattock station
Electric locomotive No 87034 passes through the closed station at Beattock. Before electrification of the railway this station, at the foot of Beattock Bank, was the point at which banking [assisting] engines were added to the train.

Balwen ewes and lambs, Beattock
Between the minor road and the railway embankment is a small herd of Balwen Sheep. The Balwen sheep has a base colour of black, brown or dark grey. It has a white blaze on the face running from the poll of the head down to the nose, four distinct white socks, and a half-white tail. The Balwen is a small, hardy breed that is easy to manage.
