Footbridge across the River Soar north-east of Kegworth
This footbridge/towpath across the River Soar's original course is where it rejoins the "new cut" dating from the 1820s. Boat crews are directed to use the new cat via Kegworth Flood Lock. I am not sure of the navigational status of the whole original meander, which is used for private moorings towards the southern end.

Looking upstream, this footbridge/towpath across the River Soar's original course is where it rejoins the "new cut" dating from the 1820s. Boat crews are directed to use the new cut via Kegworth Flood Lock (off to the left). I am not sure of the navigational status of the whole original meander, which is used for private moorings towards the southern end.
The River Soar is a tributary of the River Trent and is the principal river of Leicestershire. The source of the river is midway between Hinckley and Lutterworth. The river then flows north through Leicester, where it is joined by the Grand Union Canal. Continuing on through the Leicestershire Soar Valley, it passes Loughborough and Kegworth until it reaches the River Trent south of Long Eaton. Length: 59 miles (95km).
