Poppies at the edge of a field
These few poppies are found at the edge of a harvested field. It was some form of cereal crop, probably wheat or barley but since it has been combined only the farmer knows.

Statue of Andromeda at Melbourne Hall gardens
A Grade I Listed stone and lead life-size statue of around 1700 by Flemish sculptor Jan van Nost. Andromeda is leaning against a rock to which she is chained. One of several statues incorporated into the French-style gardens designed by London and Wise for Thomas Coke. The height of fashion at the time as these designers also worked for Queen Anne.

Broad walkway and pond at Melbourne Hall gardens
View east to the bottom end of the garden, laid out by London and Wise in the early 18th century and perhaps the best surviving example of their work. The style is French and they did much to give the formal High Baroque garden an English twist. They also translated established French gardening texts into English.

Melbourne Hall Gardens from The Birdcage
Looking west across the large pond and terraced lawns to Melbourne Hall and the Church of St Michael with St Mary. The intricate Birdcage Arbour was manufactured by Robert Bakewell in 1706-08 and erected as a centrepiece of the French-style garden designed by London and Wise for Thomas Coke.
