Dogleg in the Derby to Melbourne road
The busy main road (B587) from Derby to Melbourne, was evidently at one time less important than the now minor route from Kings Newton towards Repton. Wood End Lane is in the foreground. The B587 sweeps in from the left, and takes a sharp right turn by the white van. Straight ahead, strictly now a left turn, leads to Kings Newton.

Burdett House
Burdett House Bed and Breakfast used to be the Sir Francis Burdett pub. Sir Francis was a 19th century reformist politician, who believed in such things as universal male suffrage and vote by ballot. He was also imprisoned for criticising the government, following the Peterloo Massacre.
