Snow Covered Town Centre
It was clear at Christmas and also at New Year but for a few days in between the town centre was covered with the white stuff. The Italian style Town Hall (centre) decorated with Christmas lights looks a little out of place in this wintry scene and would surely look more at home in a sunnier vista.

South African War memorial on the Town Hall
Memorials to the South African or Boer War are not as universal as those to the World Wars. The coat of arms is that of the Borough of Ilkeston. At first sight this appears to include the date 1881. In practice the 1s are gloves and the 8s hanks of yarn, representing the hosiery and glove manufactures in which the town specialised.

Mine tubs in the Market Place
A closed-circuit television camera keeps a close eye on two mine tubs filled with flowers in front of the Town Hall in Ilkeston's Market Square, retained as a memorial to the area's deep mining heritage.
