An old Yew tree
A sign near the tree states it is 1400 years old but that sign itself is now probably 30 to 50 years old. The tree is held up by supports in places and has a single chain around the trunk about 8 feet off the ground.

The Doveridge Yew - Trunk Detail
A section of the hollowed-out centre of this ancient tree. Decay of the heartwood is a common feature of old yew trees which in turn makes their ages difficult to ascertain. In this case an estimate of 1000-1300 years is probably about right.
