in Bankside, Stanton. The stone over the door is inscribed "Primitive Methodist Chapel erected at the sole expense of David Smith. AD 1824". Primitive Methodism started only 30 km away on Image Mow Cop in 1807.

Stanton village pound?
Not marked on any of the maps, and apparently not listed either, but this structure of walls surrounding a small enclosure looks remarkably like a village pound. If so, it would have been used in the 18th & 19th centuries to keep stray animals from wandering further until their owner came to reclaim them.
