Clifton Road, Ashbourne, Derbys.
Bank Holiday traffic queuing on the A515 road, heading towards Ashbourne. A directional sign just ahead, flags up a new-ish road serving St Oswald's Hospital and the local Leisure Centre, i.e. Leisure Way. This Grade II-listed building is a redundant goods shed, part of the former railway goods yard complex. The land to the rear of this building, that was once occupied by the original station and its goods yard is now the site of the new St.Oswald's Hospital (opened in 2010). Ashbourne's Leisure Centre's car park now occupies site of the town's second station. From 1910, the Nestlé Company had a creamery in the town that was once was contracted to produce Carnation condensed milk. The factory had its own private sidings connected to the station's goods yard, allowing milk trains to access the facility.

Ashbourne Goods Shed
The goods shed is a survivor of the original North Staffordshire Railway Ashbourne Branch which arrived in the town in 1852. The line closed in 1964.

Nestles Factory, Clifton Road, Ashbourne
Taken in June 2006 the picture shows the former Nestles Factory built in 1910. The factory produced Carnation Milk and other canned milk products, employing 117 people before production ceased and the factory closed in 2003. Demolition was completed in 2006, and site amelioration works are currently (Jan 2007) underway to prepare the site for redevelopment. It is intended that the site will be used for housing, light industrial and retail.
