Ecclesbourne Valley Railway - class 14 approaching
The locomotive has run around its train at Duffield Station and is returning to couple up for the journey to Wirksworth. This is D9537, also known as Eric, a class 14 diesel hydraulic locomotive built at Swindon in 1965. Today's services should have been steam hauled but there was a problem and Eric was standing in.

The train is now in the correct formation for the run to Shottle, where more shunting will take place. I took a turn at the controls on the Shottle to Wirksworth leg of the journey.

An Ecclesbourne Valley Train at Duffield Station
This photo shows a diesel railcar L 594 dating from 1959 at Duffield Station having arrived from Wirksworth Station. The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway runs between the two stations a distance of 9 miles (14.5km), the service having commenced in April 2011. The main line station at Duffield adjoins this platform, but is out of the photo.
