Belper - East Lodge
East Lodge, situated at the corner of Belper Lane with Lodge Drive, is one of the four lodges (north, south, east and west) to the Bridge Hill House estate built in Belper in 1796. All four are still occupied although Bridge Hill House itself was demolished in 1938. Bridge Hill House was built between 1793-5 for George Benson Strutt (son of Jedediah). It was lived in by succeeding members of the cotton-mill-owning Strutt family, the last being George Herbert Strutt after his second marriage. It was demolished in 1938 and is now the site of several private houses. For more information on the Strutt connection with Belper, please see http://www.belper-research.com/places/east%20lodge.html .
