The Station pub and village post office, Westhouses
The building at the end is the village post office which stands at the junction with the road to Tibshelf. It is also adjacent to the road bridge over the mainline railway between Alfreton and Chesterfield.

Up freight at Westhouses & Blackwell
View northward, towards Chesterfield and just south of Westhouses station (out of sight to the left, closed 2/1/67): ex-Midland Erewash Valley main line. A lucky shot taken from a Down express, the Class F freight is on the Up Slow, headed by LMS Fowler 4F 0-6-0 No. 44070 (built 1925, withdrawn 6/62) - countless numbers of which plodded up and down this busy line. On the right can be glimpsed the mineral line which served collieries towards South Normanton and Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Blackwell Branch Junction
Class 20's, 20173+20189 come off the Alfreton-Sheffield main line as they approach Tibshelf Sidings with a rake of empty mineral wagons. The line to Blackwell Sidings from Blackwell South Junction is visible on the left. On the top left are wagons in the private siding of Alfreton Explosives Rough Close Works. With the closure of the collieries in the 1980's the Blackwell Branch closed and the tracks have been lifted. However, the line the 20's are running on remains in use as a freight line.
