View south, towards Derby on the former ex-Midland Peak main line to Buxton and Manchester. Since 29/6/68, this has been degraded and reduced to a local line from Derby to Matlock, using this former Up main platform: in recent years (July 2011), the heritage Peak Rail from Rowsley has terminated at the former Down main.

An East Midlands Trains class 153 diesel unit emerges from Holt Lane Tunnel, seen from platform 1 of Matlock station. The bridge in the foreground carries Snitterton Road across the railway. The stop block on the right is the end of Peak Rail, a heritage railway that uses platform 2 (the former Down platform); it is connected to the main line north of the station.
