University of Derby
Derbyshire's only University, the photo shows the tower blocks of the Kedleston Road campus viewed from across the lake in Markeaton Park. In 1992, it was the only college (Derby College of Higher Education) to be upgraded to a University along with the polytechnics. The University has several campus sites in Derby and one at Buxton and they offer a wide range of courses from Access right through to PhD. See http://www.derby.ac.uk for further information.

Old Toll House on Kedleston Road, Derby
Former Tollhouse relocated from original site at Kedleston Road Gate, now Toll Bar Cottage, Kedleston Road, DERBY (DERBY District). The principal structure is thought to have been built for the Wirksworth and Derby Turnpike Trust in 1863 in the form of a lodge with bold ornamentation. Currently domestic property with only minor changes to the original tollhouse structure on the UC, Derby to Hulland road. External features; single storey with attic on rectangular-bay front with one wing floor plan, having a gabled roof, with walls mainly of brick, roofed in plain tile, mullioned windows with latticed lights, canopied with a Gothick arch headed doorway; ornate brickwork with stone banding; large brick chimney stack to left side. This well-restored, ornate building, part covered in creeper, has been moved and re-erected on this site. Grade II Listed. NGR: SK 3361 3791: Tollhouse National ID: DE.DER03.
