St Anthony's Well, Coxbench
The plaque reads: "St Anthony's Well, Coxbench, was erected in 1611 in a cottage garden and moved to its present site in 1979. It was regularly used by monks and the waters were said to have healing properties."
This spot is not as peaceful as it appears as its almost underneath a bridge carrying the A38 dual carriageway over the Coxbench Road.

By no means the only picture on the site, but none comments that the reason for its move was the building of the A38 extension. The move probably also explains why a historic structure like this is not a Listed Building.

St Anthony's Well
St Anthony's Well. Coxbench, Derbyshire. The well was originally erected in a nearby cottage garden in 1611. The waters of the well were at one time regularly taken by local Monks (probably from Breadsall Priory) and were believed to have healing properties. The well was moved to its current position near to the Coxbench A38 flyover in 1979.

Under the A38 at Coxbench
Just ahead is a junction on the former A61 Derby - Sheffield road. That has now been downgraded to the B6179 and most of the traffic diverted to the modern A38 flying high above.
