Outside the Bridge Inn (see Image). Right to Preston Brook at the junction with the Bridgewater Canal at the 'Mersey' end. Left to Shardlow, where the canal meets the river Trent. When the Trent & Mersey Canal Society began restoring all the mileposts, this one was found together with milepost 19 in the garden of the lock cottage at Tatenhill lock. They were moved to their current locations in October 1978. Viewed from the middle of the Trent and Mersey Canal by Bridge No 34. The Bridge Inn used to be a cosy traditional Marston's pub, but now it is more of a restaurant that serves properly made Italian food and has a bar. The furniture is heavy, the homeliness has gone. However, the garden is a pleasant area for a pint of real ale on a warm dry summer evening. (Does anyone remember those?)

A T-shaped underpass with this short section running parallel to the dual carriageway, which is on the embankment to the right. The main underpass just ahead leads left to Tatenhill Lane and right under the main road to Branston.

Taken from Branston Bridge, No 34 on a damp and murky day. Ahead, and to both sides of the canal is Branston Water Park, a group of large flooded former gravel pits. Staffordshire's long distance footpath, The Millennium Way, passes along the tow-path here.

Branston Bridge (No 34) carries the lane from Branston towards Tatenhill. The large red-brick Nurton Bridge has yet to be built forty metres beyond Branston Bridge.

This public house and restaurant is by Branston Bridge (No 34) across the Trent and Mersey Canal. Online reviews are very encouraging, as a restaurant rather than a pub.
