Park Lane
Park Lane is on the very edge of Tutbury. This is a small village with a famous ruined castle. The castle Housed Mary Queen of Scots for some time.

Tutbury Park Pale
Ditch and bank forming part of the boundary of the park attached to Tutbury Castle. Although the Park Pale is a medieval creation, probably dating from around the building of the castle in the 11th century, it has been tentatively suggested that this section my have originated as an Iron Age hill fort. This and the two other sections of the Park Pale are protected as a Scheduled Monument. On the Tutbury Heritage Walk
This section of the walk http://www.tutbury.org/tutbury_heritage_walk/park_pale_leaflet_21_february_2009.pdf , along one of the well-preserved sections of the earthworks forming the Tutbury Park Pale (boundary), with the castle in the distance, makes use of permissive footpaths granted by the Duchy of Lancaster.

Tutbury Park Pale and ridge and furrow ploughing
The Park Pale is the bank and ditch cut into the hillside. It is thought to be medieval but may be based on something much older, possibly iron-age. It is a scheduled ancient monument.
The field, running down the hill in front, has been strip farmed, highlighted here by the low November sun.
