Melgund Castle
Melgund is an L-plan castle built in the 16th century by Cardinal Beaton, and later belonged to the Marquis of Huntly. It had fallen into ruin but has recently been restored by Benjamin Tindall Architects. The original local quarry was reopened to supply the new stone, though the new ashlar of the parapet does not match the weathered rough stone walls. It is hoped that the new stone will soon weather to match the colour of the older stone.
