Castle Street
This is the east side of the north end of Castle Street, near the Cross, which is to the right. The narrow street on the left is Queen Street, formerly called Back Wynd. The three-storey Victorian sandstone building is the premises of David Irons and Sons, a wonderfully traditional emporium which sells hardware, ironmongery, china and porcelain. It still has old-fashioned wooden floors and good old-fashioned service to match. It only passed out of the hands of the Irons family in the first years of the 21st century. Behind it used to be the Pavilion Cinema, one of two in Forfar in the mid-20th century.

The Cross
This is where Castle Street divides to pass either side of the town buildings. The steeple of the parish kirk dominates the gap to the left of the curved Georgian façade.
