Once used by the local linen industry, the Pitairlie or Barry Burn now torments golfers. It has a certain reputation and is famous for its role at the end of the 1999 Open.

Retrieving a ball from the Pitairlie / Barry Burn at Carnoustie. With the watercourses here, this is a common fate for players and history tells us that it is probably preferable to playing out of the burn.
