Waxwing
One of a flock of 10 Waxwings that has been making regular visits for the last week. Attracted by the last of the apple crop, this is as good a reason as any to leave tidying the garden until spring. Waxwings are a seasonal visitors from summer breeding grounds in Scandinavia and Russia. Some years see large numbers coming to the UK, this is the first time they have visited our garden in the seven years we have lived here.

Ice on a birch in central Carnoustie
Cold winter weather has produced impressive ice formations on the local trees. Although weather this cold is unusual now in winter Carnoustie still has a curling pond. The pond is now dry as the winter weather cannot sustain the ice needed.
