Tay Works, Dundee
These long neo-classical ranges were built in 1851-6 for jute spinning and carpet weaving. The closest is Tay Calender, now a Travelodge. Dundee still boasts many interesting former textile mills and I had a couple of interesting hours walking round this area. The street on the left with its name above the to let sign is the real Bash Street and the sign has illustrations of the comic characters on it - The Bash Street Kids. In reality it's a short and unprepossessing street and I didn't realise what it was until I got the image home.

Tay Calender, Dundee
On Guthrie Street. This works used calenders to apply a smooth finish to the cloth. This was built in 1881 and is part of the massive Tay Works that extends along Lochee Road. The Lochee Road elevation of this building is the front of a Travelodge and a gym.

One thing I noticed was the converted buildings which were along here; they turned out to be old jute mills http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jute
