This path is part of Arbroath Path Network. It leads to Arbroath Town Centre. The Brothock Burn can just be seen to the right of the picture.

Parish Hall
I think this is, or from the look of it was, the parish kirk hall of St Vigeans. It does not enhance the view from the mound on which the kirk stands.

Mostly 15th century though parts date back to the 12th century. It underwent many "improvements" in the 19th century.

Gravestone in St. Vigeans Churchyard
One of several old gravestones lining the eastern edge of the graveyard. This one inscribed with the names of John Spinks and Agnes Spinks is adorned with some crudely attractive carvings.

St Vigeans Parish Kirk
The parish of St Vigeans originally included the parish of Arbroath, until the latter was disjoined in the 16th century and formed into a separate parish as the town developed. Ironically, the Royal Burgh of Arbroath continued to expand into the separate parish of St Vigeans. An important kirk was founded here in the 12th century by the eponymous saint. The present building, strikingly sited on a high steep-sided mound, incorporates 12th century gables and a 15th century tower. It was restored in 1871, with an apse and west tower, by Sir R Rowand Anderson, and is a category A listed building. In the foreground of this view are Image] and Image
