Arbroath Abbey
The 12th. abbey was founded by William I when he invited Tironesian monks from Kelso to populate the new establishment. Arbroath Abbey is best known for the Scottish Declaration of Independence was written in 1320.

William The Lion
A simple sandstone slab marks the burial place of William I, King of Scots, who reigned from 1165-1214 and who founded Arbroath Abbey as a memorial to his childhood friend, Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury.
