The statue was sculpted by William Calder Marshal in 1859 and is Category B listed [http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB38089]. Joseph Hume was a radical politician born in Montrose in 1777. Behind is the Category C listed [http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/LB38027] classical hotel building (formerly the Central Hotel Buildings) with its corner tower on the corner of High Street and Hume Street.
