The Bridges Pub, South Darenth
There is a wrestlers reunion here today, hence all the powerfully built, tough looking men hanging around outside. It's probably one of the safest places in Kent at the moment!

River Darent near South Darenth
The Darent between Horton Kirby and South Darenth is a very attractive stretch of the river and is closely followed by the Darent Valley Path. The water is very clean with much submerged vegetation as befits a chalk stream. This is just upriver of Station Road in South Darenth.

Horton Kirby Viaduct and the River Darent
Viewed from Station Road. The Bridges public house is on the right. The viaduct, built in 1859-60, has 10 arches each approximately 10 metres wide and 20 metres in height. The 6th arch is across the River Darent. The viaduct was designed by Victorian architect Joseph Cubitt, known for designing the original Blackfriars Bridge in London. It was built by teams of Irish 'navvies' for the London, Chatham and Dover railway.
