Longfield station
Longfield station is on the line from Victoria to the Medway towns. The station opened as Fawkham station in June 1872, taking the name of the village which lies a little way to the south. This name was chosen as a local landowner had offered land and cash for provision of a station. The original station was destroyed by fire around 1900 and rebuilt. The railway line through Fawkham station was electrified in 1939 with electric trains operating between Victoria and Gillingham, but steam trains continued to pass through the station on their way to and from the Kent Coast until June 1959. In 1961, the station was renamed 'Longfield for Fawkham & Hartley' but by the end of the 1960s it became plain Longfield. This view looks down the line towards the Medway towns and Kent coast.
