Junction 2, M25
Junction 2 of the M25, taken from a bridge just north of the junction. Taken on a day of squally showers and cloudy sky, the sun came out just at the right time just to illuminate the junction itself.

Except at this point the road may be the A282 - the motorway ends round about here.

Start of the M25, Dartford
The M25 almost forms a complete ring around the edge of London. However the ring is broken between Dartford in Kent and West Thurrock on the north side of the Thames, with the A282 Dartford tunnels and bridge filling in the gap. This photo shows the start of the M25, heading south from Dartford as it starts its clockwise journey of 117 miles around the edge of London to West Thurrock. Slip roads carry traffic onto and from the A2, which crosses the M25 about a kilometre to the south. The photo was taken in fading light, at dusk on an October evening.

Start of the M25
The M25 is thought of as a circular motorway. But topologically it is a linear one (though bent almost into a circle) as the section across/under the Thames at Dartford is not a motorway. The junctions are numbered clockwise starting south of the Thames crossing, and the map shows the green road changing to blue (denoting motorway status) at the foot of this slip road of junction 1.
