Northwich - The Penny Black - from north-east
The following narrative is taken from: http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-penny-black-northwich . "This Wetherspoon pub was purpose-built in 1914 as the town's main post office, and takes its name from the world's first-ever adhesive postage stamp. The Witton Street frontage bears a plaque with the inscription: 'Designed by HM Office of Works in 1914, as a purpose-built post office to serve Northwich and District, it is the town's largest liftable building'. 'Liftable' or timber-framed structures have been used in Northwich - particularly for public buildings - so that they can be jacked back into position when subsidence occurs."
