The Coachman
A perfectly good pub, near the railway station, and open from mid-day onwards. I fine service for the weary traveller. Recommended.

Down Relief express rushing through Hartford station
View SE, towards Crewe and the South: WCML. Electrification is now complete between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street and electric services are about to start in a few days, on 1 January 1962, but not for another 14 years on the WCML (Weaver Junction to Glasgow). The Down express is headed by Stanier 5MT 4-6-0 No. 45493 (built 1944, withdrawn 1/68).

Hartford Station
View SE, towards Crewe; ex-London & North Western West Coast Main Line, Crewe - Carlisle. A Down local train is calling, hauled by a 'Patriot' Class 5XP 4-6-0. The station is being rebuilt and masts and wires for the Electrification between Crewe and Liverpool are being erected, but electric trains would not however, appear for another seven months.
