Soda-ash train from ICI Northwich on loop line from CLC to WCML at Hartford Junction
View SE, towards Northwich, with Cheshire Lines Manchester - Chester line beyond. The train is headed by Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48255. Compare this photograph with Image], which was probably taken - over four years earlier, from the same bridge but looking in the opposite direction and showing the loop to be electrified - is it now?!

Limestone train from Tunstead to ICI Winnington, 1964
View SE from the Hodge Lane bridge over the loop from the CLC at Northwich to the Hartford Exchange Sidings on the West Coast Main Line, from which the train will be worked to the ICI Works. In those days about 10 of these limestone trains ran every weekday and even about 6 on Sundays - and there are workings even today. The locomotive here is Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48693 (built 1944 on the SR, withdrawn 4/67).

Train of empties eastbound from Hartford Exchange Sidings
View westward, towards the junction with the West Coast Main Line of the loop to the Cheshire Lines (CLC) Chester - Northwich - Manchester line. A Class F empties is running towards Northwich, hauled by ex-War Department 2-8-0 No. 90135. Note that at least for a short distance the loop has been electrified, presumably along with the WCML Crewe - Weaver Junction - Liverpool (Lime Street) on which electric services began on 1/1/62.
