Fine Art Wall Coverings, Holmes Chapel - steam engine
Back in the 1990s it was still possible to find beautiful generating sets like this Belliss & Morcom at what is now Fine Décor Wallcoverings. It was removed to Markham Grange Nursery in 1992 but has seen no active use there. It is an inverted vertical compound (enclosed) engine, serial No. 9258 of 1937. It is a V-type with cylinders 13" & 20" bores x 10" stroke. It developed c300 bhp at 428 rpm and is direct coupled to an alternator.

Holmes Chapel - Mandeville's bakers
One of Holmes Chapel's long-established family businesses, now somewhat squeezed by the volume of traffic on the A535. The HGV will have to use both lanes to negotiate the mini-roundabout a few yards behind the photographer.

A narrow passage runs round the parish church, with an alley through to Mandeville's bakery, a very old-established business. These houses at the rear of the church are some of the oldest in the village.
