Fine Art Wall Coverings, Holmes Chapel - steam engine
Back in the 1990s it was still possible to find beautiful generating sets like this Belliss & Morcom at what is now Fine Décor Wallcoverings. It was removed to Markham Grange Nursery in 1992 but has seen no active use there.
It is an inverted vertical compound (enclosed) engine, serial No. 9258 of 1937. It is a V-type with cylinders 13" & 20" bores x 10" stroke. It developed c300 bhp at 428 rpm and is direct coupled to an alternator.

Holmes Chapel Station
The station booking office is inconveniently on the lesser-used Crewe platform, a legacy of the original station's construction with goods facilities on this side of the line. The building is a relic of the 1959 electrification: a design very much of its time which has not worn particularly well.
