The Castle Inn
Castle is a common name for a pub but normally it refers to a nearby fortification, in this case there seems to be no record of Congleton ever having one. This makes me wonder if, perhaps, it was named after the motte and bailey about three miles away in Bailey's Wood (Image). For a close-up of the sign see Image

A chunky seat
The seats on the Staffordshire stretch of the Biddulph Valley Way pale into insignificance compared to the solid affairs provided by Cheshire East Council. This one looks over Biddulph Brook to the woodland on the other side.
