Half-timbered Houses and War Memorial, Sandbach.
Sandbach was a salt town, later silk and still has many old, interesting houses. The thatched Black Bear pub carries a date of 1634. Sandbach also has two renowned Anglo-Saxon crosses.

The old Post Office, Sandbach
This building on the south side of the town square was a post office until (?) the late 1990s. It is now a betting shop. The replacement post office is a much smaller one as part of a supermarket development nearby. The Royal Mail sorting office is still behind here, though.

Detail of the older of the Sandbach Crosses
The taller of the two grade I listed 'crosses' is also the older. The central panel of this south-east side clearly represents the Crucifixion of Christ; the other scenes are less obvious but according to the interpretation board on site, represent the Nativity (bottom) and Visit of the Magi (top). See

The Lower Chequer, Sandbach
Since my previous photo seven years earlier
Image the pub has changed ownership; from the outside not much has changed other than removal of ivy and a new inn sign
Image
The pub is grade 2 listed (list entry 1130388); the listing describes it as "Late C16 or early C17 but much altered and restored and retaining few original features" with the half-timbering being a modern imitation rather than part of the original structure.
