An idyllic location, but the bridge is a modern reconstruction in association with the waste-water treatment works on the towpath side.

This unattractive modern bridge will have replaced the original brick accommodation bridge so that traffic to and from the sewage treatment works (off to the right) could cross the Trent and Mersey Canal.

Bridge to Sandbach Wastewater Treatment Works
Bridge 156 over the canal is less architecturally interesting than most others. The 1898 map does show a bridge here, but I presume it was replaced with this concrete and steel one some time in the last eighty years to provide vehicle access to the sewage works.
