Offley House
The house once had extensive lands on the edge of Sandbach but they were sold from the 1960s onwards for housing developments, leaving the old house with just a couple of acres. Photo taken from the gate to the drive, off a public road (Congleton Road).

Dandelions in a neglected garden
This house had, at the time of the photograph, been vacant for quite some time. Dandelions (and other weeds) had taken the opportunity to colonise the front lawn.

Beresfords truck at Offley House
Offley House was at one time owned by the Foden family (local truck builders). Lurking round the corner on this occasion was an old ERF truck (from the other one-time local builders) in Beresfords colours, the reason being that the Beresford family (who own the haulage business in the Potteries) live here, and the following day would be the annual vintage truck display on the Common.

Entrance to Offley House
Offley House was at one time owned by the Foden family (local truck builders) and had extensive lands, most of which were sold off in the 1960s-1980s for house building. Since 1967 it has been owned by the Beresford family.

The "Black Path"
This path running through a green corridor between the streets of this housing estate has been known as the "black path" by locals at least for the 30 years that I have known the area. The name may have been inspired by nothing more than the bitumen macadam surface, or it may have some more historic significance.

Old style roadsign on former A534
Congleton Road used to be the main road into Sandbach from the east, the A534. That number is now allocated to the bypass built in the 1980s. This roadsign remains, at the junction with Offley Road.

Daffodils outside Offley House
I think this section of wide verge probably belongs to Offley House rather than to the highway authority.
